“Getting into punk rock around 1980, basically the only metal band that was allowed to be part of the punk rock scene was Motörhead, as far as I was concerned. If you saw somebody show up in a jean vest with the Motörhead patch on the back it was like, ‘There’s a metaller, but he can hang with us!’ ‘Ace of Spades’ was the track where you heard that and went, ‘That’s not metal, that’s punk rock!’”
Fletcher Dragge, Pennywise guitarist.
Influential Cali-punks Pennywise are paying homage (along with a ton of other impressive acts) by taking part in the upcoming tribute compilation: Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute to Motörhead (out 31 October). Fletcher and crew have released their blazing cover of “Ace Of Spades.”
Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute to Motörhead also features luminaries of the punk scene such as: Rancid, Lagwagon and The Damned among many more. Check out the cover below!

Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
