TGEFM is having a spot of tea (actually 100% true) and are pumped to premiere UK pop-punks Big Drink new cover of the Good Charlotte song “The Anthem,” which originally features on the band’s 2002 The Young and the Hopeless LP. In order to pull of their rendition the band has added a bit of icing to the top in the form of help from their friends in Things That Need To Be Fixed.
Not ones to mess with a good thing, Big Drink take some of the saccharine sweet poppiness out of the original, kicking up the tempo, grubbing up the vocals a tad (in my opinion, a much more effective vocal performance), all while keeping what made the original catchy in the first place.
When asked to comment on the cover, Jamie on bass says:
I’m a big fan of both Good Charlotte and Things That Need To Be Fixed, so teaming up with them to cover “The Anthem” and put our heavy pop punk twist on it has been a lot of fun. Can’t wait for people to hear it!”
Now they can, Jamie. Now they can!
