Watch out, because St. Louis “(l)oud rock band” Interpersonal is about to get very personal with their new single and video “Alabaster.” The song, along with “Become Death,” are the first new tracks from the band since their 2022 debut LP Inner Visions, and are also the first new songs off of their upcoming sophomore LP (more details on that are still a bit “hush hush”).
Lucky you (and us), TGEFM is here to premiere the video for “Alabaster.” It’s definitely a moody piece of art, and works well wias a companion to the powerful song. The band clues us in on the new LP, as well as the one-two punch of “Alabaster” and “Become Death”:
When we sat down to write this album, we decided we wanted to explore some ideas that we hadn’t really gotten into before — we called it The Long Bright Dark and that’s basically literal. It’s about the lightest and darkest parts of life. We dig into things like loss and mourning, and social issues, and all the stuff in between.
“Alabaster” is basically a first-person perspective on a dissociative episode. It’s something Lyle has real world experience with and it’s a side of mental health that people talk about less than we think they should. The music video kind of reflects that – the missing time, the loss of self, it feels kind of scary but also distant. We were listening to a lot of Shoegaze when we wrote it. It sounds like fucking purgatory.
On the other hand, “Become Death” is about American imperialism and our bloodthirsty foreign policy. Totally opposite direction, but it’s the kind of thing that you think about when you’re really going through it, because it matters. It’s heavy, it’s dark – you can lift weights to it.
Well, if this is what pumping iron means, we’re here for it! Enjoy the video for “Alabaster” and, underneath, we’ve embedded the sample of “Become Death” (sorry, that’s all Spotify lets us play). But beneath beneath (beneath?) all of that, find the links you need for Interpersonal, along with their mini-tour starting up in NW Chicago Suburbs TONIGHT and moving down the state of Illinois through the weekend.
