Ontario’s person of mystery Freddie Freeloader has a new single coming out tomorrow, but TGEFM pulled a few mask strings and got the chance to premiere it for you today. “FREE ME” (all caps, mind you), is the first single frothier upcoming EP INDIGO I.

Hidden behind an nondescript mask, with the only variation being paint or design, who– or what– Freddie Freeloader is isn’t as important as the stories they tell through music, and music videos. As Freddie explains:
“FREE ME” is a song about feelings I experienced when I was with a girl, trying to be open again. After ending a relationship that was 5 1/2 years long, it felt impossible to be intimate or open with someone. Everytime I tried to be vulnerable, all the memories of the past relationship came up and I couldn’t escape it. I couldn’t wash any marks away, I couldn’t talk through it, partying left me feeling more empty, drugs and drinks made me think of the last relationship more than the potential of a new one.
So, the lyrics of FREE ME go through every thought and emotion. The music video reenacts these thoughts and emotions through a house party.
Every song I create is always a story of something that happened in my life. From my first EP; CRIMSON I, a record about all the emotions one feels after a break up. To my colour-merging single; “THE FRENCH CONNECTION”, which is a narration of the Freddie story transitioning from red colours to blue. To FREE ME, the first of the blue colour scheme and a song of sad reminiscing. Every song is a real piece of me travelling through, to you.
The song is moody, and moving. The video, done in a single shot, is mesmerizing to watch. (and I’m curious how many takes it took?)
More information on the release date of INDIGO I is still forthcoming. TGEFM will keep you in the loop on that, but be sure to visit Freddie Freeloader’s linktree page, where you’ll find a plethora of social media, streaming, and purchase links!
