Premiere: Head out on a “Midnight Run” with Bathroom of the Future in new single/video

Those in the know will know that “Maclunkey” exists, even though we may not be entirely sure how or, more to the point, why.

Those not in the know may at least be aware that Star Wars creator George Lucas likes to tinker with his films each time they get a new release. Well for those latter people, let’s just say that good ol’ George decided to make a character say the word (sound?) “Maclunkey” and he was being fatally shot.

What does that have to do with music? Well, we should all know by now that Michigan’s Bathroom of the Future are nothing if not pop and geek culture-centric, and they named their upcoming EP, due out 10 Jun 2022, Maclunkey.

If you’ve gotten this far, you’re in for a surprise, as TGEFM is super-honored to premiere the new single and video from the album “Midnight Run”!

Tim David, guitarist and vocalist (and semi-regular TGEFM guest contributor), describes both the track and video:

I wrote the song itself to try to face my own sense of permanent nostalgia – I always seem to find myself looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses, even if the times I’m remembering weren’t quite as exciting or fun as I’m telling myself they are. “Midnight Run” is kind of a way to explore the banality of that age where you’re not old enough to have a car, but too old to be easily entertained, and how being too nostalgic for the old days can start to feel futile.

The video was directed by our friend Ryan Miloch from the band Sleepology, who did our last video. He had the idea for the weird, Lynchian birthday party video a while ago but never found a band or song that it really matched with, and when he pitched it to us we thought it was the perfect fit for a song about how, as you grow up, stuff doesn’t really quite feel like it used to.

Bathroom of the Future have a couple of gigs lined up, including the Maclunkey release party. You can check out the new track, those gig dates, and all of the social media, streaming, and purchase options you’ll ever need below.
