Great news everyone! Well, aside from Futurama being back, we’ve also got some new music from Chicago rockers Nora Marks! The band is releasing their second new single of the year with “Old Magic.” Now, that single doesn’t officially release until tomorrow, but TGEFM has a little bit of our own magi… OK, ok, we asked to premiere it! But that’s because we love Nora Marks and know that you will, too!
The track is intricate in composition and dramatic in presentation. Michael Garrity, vocalist/guitarist, has this to say about the song:
This is probably my favorite song we’ve ever written, in part because it’s the most we’ve ever collaborated together on a single song, and the first one we’ve completed with our current lineup. We packed so many different ideas into it. It’s always such a journey to listen to and feel the way it twists and turns and distorts itself from one thing to another. When we play it live, the energy is just so unique and the song never quite sounds the same twice. It’s also the most comfortable I’ve ever been as a vocalist, which I credit to the support of my bandmates and their incredible performances on this track.
Nora Marks has all of the links you’ll ever need over at their linktree page… merch, streaming, social, purchase.. all of it. They’re also playing a release show for the single on 10 Aug 2023 at Schubas in Chicago, and you can check out that event poster below.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
