OK, so normally I like to start by saying something nice about the band and their song or video whenever TGEFM premieres something, but the quotes about the track from Danny Dunlap, guitarist/vocalist for Austin, TX power-pop act Gentlemen Rogues, are just too good!
“All Out Crush” is a song about meeting someone and obsessing over a perceived, shared “spark”, with the thought of this person becoming the only thing that brings you any hope or joy in life. They are a romantic obsession and delusion that distracts you from all of the horribleness in the world. But, in reality, this person is only a little more than a complete stranger.
Oh, heck yeah. I think we've all been there at some point.
Musically speaking, “All Out Crush” is one of the more straightforward power-pop songs on the record, complete with subtle (and not so subtle) lyrical nods to The Only Ones, The Nerves, and The Beatles, sewn in for good measure.
Not bad, not bad. One could definitely do worse with their influences, but be hard-pressed to do better.
A quick little fun fact about the song's title is that one day I was shoe shopping and noticed that a certain brand of trail-running shoe had a pair called “All Out Crush”.
I thought that would make for a good song title, so I stuck that idea in my back pocket to eventually be used at some point. So yeah, this song ended up being named after a shoe. Ha!

“All Out Crush” is the first pre-release single from Gentlemen Rogues upcoming LP Surface Noise, due out 16 Feb 2024 via Double Helix Records and Shifting Sounds. It will be their sophomore LP following Mar 2023's A History of Fatalism as well as a series of EPs, singles, and even a covers cassette mixtape called, Sonic Alterations
