Well, this is a first for TGEFM but, definitely, a welcome one. We are excited to premiere the teaser video for the upcoming comp Let Me Go – An Acoustic-Punk Tribute to Rancid. This 20-track release, out 15 Nov 2021 via Anxiety Attack Recordings, isn’t just stripped-down versions of Rancid tracks, they’re also stripped-down versions of Rancid tracks ENTIRELY by Canadian artists! Contributors including Emily Bones, Dragon City Radio, Mikey and His Uke and more.
Cactus Vella, who runs Anxiety Attack and also contributes to the release, has this to say:
Rancid lends itself perfectly to the acoustic guitar. Lots of open chords and great melodies. Also, the working class, rebellious, and storytelling lyrics are not far removed from traditional folk or even old country songs. It’s a natural fit.
I love giving people a challenge. I know with this comp I took some of the musicians out of their comfort zones. People who never did the singer/songwriter thing before. And when the songs started coming in I was really glad I pushed some people to try new things. I’m so blown away with how awesome these covers are!
Trust me, i’ve heard the whole album (expect a TGEFM track-by-track discussion soon), and it’s a treat!
The album will be available this coming Monday at the Anxiety Attack Bandcamp page. We’ll get you the link on the day of release, and also feature it in next Tuesday’s Corral of new releases.
In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer for the comp, which features small snippets of all twenty tracks.
