Woohoo! Washington DC punks American Television (or AMTV for short) have a new video from their recent album and TGEFM is honored to premiere it for you! “New Generation” is the lead track to the Scars LP, released 22 Sep 2023 via Smartpunk Records. It’s a short and quick banger that sets the tone for the rest of the album (read my review here).
Guitarist and vocalist Steven Rovery gives us the lowdown on the video, plus also puts his huckster hat on with a coupon code AND reveals their new “upcycled” notebooks:
“New Generation” is our 90-second ode to the next wave of punk rock kids. We see the kids who are going to push out these old ideals that are having some kind of last-breath resurgence. The kids who stand up for human rights, justice, and their future. But, to form a perspective, they need access to materials that bring them new perspectives.
Our new video takes a look at book bans that have taken place in public schools due to the context of race, sexuality, and even history. Some of the books we read in high school have even been pulled from shelves in 2023-24. It’s just getting absurd.
Soon after we filmed this video we learned that even Webster’s Dictionary was being reviewed for its content in Florida. That’s just fucking stupid.
As a tie-in, we made a short run of limited edition notebooks crafted from our unreleased A-F Records record jackets*. They’re up on Bandcamp right now. And if you grab a record off our bandcamp this weekend (2/16-2/18), use code ‘NEWGEN’ to get 15% off!
(Scars was originally slated to be released via A-F Records. After the fallout from the sexual assault accusations against Justin Sane, AMTV found a new home for the album with Smartpunk Records. -editor)
So be sure to swing by the AMTV Bandcamp and use that coupon code (remember: NEWGEN) to get 15% off vinyl purchases, as well as pick up a sweet Scars notebook.
The band will also be hitting the road in spurts over the coming months, with several of those dates still being finalized. We’ll give you what we can, though.
