Gus Baldwin and The Sketch sounds like a sketchy name, doesn’t it? Trust me, whatever you think this band may be about just by the name is probably mostly wrong…. unless you’re thinking awesome. Then you’d be right! When I was contacted about this premiere I was given a link to the band that was, sadly, not working. So I did a little bit of legwork and, holy hell, this band rocks. So without any hyperbole, I’d like to exclaim that TGEFM is hsuper-excited to premiere two new tracks from GBaTS’ upcoming album.
Starting with “Luxury Television,” the song is a testament to garage and proto-punk. Highly-kinetic, the energy bursts forth from the start and keep rolling through the entirety of the song.
We’ve also got “What the Freaks Say,” a little ditty that keeps a bit of a lower tempo, but that doesn’t mean that they song doesn’t build up in energy as it progresses.
Gus Baldwin has been around the Austin, TX scene for a bit as part of Sealion, solo, and seen with backing band The Sketch. Their new album, The Sketch, will be the first release featuring the group as a whole put on tape (or… bits, maybe?). The album is out 31 Jan 2025 on Permanent Teeth Records, and is available to preorder as a digital download, as well as cassette or vinyl over at the Bandcamp.
There’s also a listening party scheduled for 29 Jan 2025 at 9pm EDT/6pm PDT, which you can RSVP for directly right here.
