Who the heck are Isolated Earthlings, you ask? Why it’s the solo project from Blind Marc. Who the heck is Blind Marc, you ask? Hey, I’m done answering questions!
OK, not really. Blind Marc, who is legally blind, has been the drummer for Canadian thrash masters Dayglo Abortions since 2011. Marc loves music though, and loves all kinds of music. And so he decided to record some songs on his own and that’s how we end up with Isolated Earthlings and his debut solo album of the same name.
When we asked Marc to fill us in on what this album is about, we got an earful (or keyboardful?):
My album is basically a comedy album with some rock ‘n’ roll to fill in the blanks. I wrote all the songs in my living room in November 2020. The world was pretty well locked down nobody was questioning anything just doing what they were told. i’m not claiming to have all the answers to the worlds problems but I figure I can at least try to make people laugh and forget about things for awhile. So I tried to keep it light and wrote some songs about SCTV and Spaceballs. I grew up in the Edmonton area so SCTV was a big part of my life growing up as a kid. There’s also a song called crib which is all about pulling out my braille cards and crib board and killing some time during the lockdowns. So I recorded all the demos in my living room on my Computer. I played all the instruments but unfortunately I only had my electric drums. I got my nephew Nolan to help me mix my demos he also played some guitar and banjo tracks on a couple of the songs. In August 2021 the dayglos flew out to Edmonton to record the hate speech album. Well I was there I also redid the drums and bass tracks on my demos that I recorded in my living room, also redid most of the vocals. And got a couple of my buddies from back home to play the guitar tracks for me. The album is self titled, the isolated earthlings and I am going to release it on my band camp page on Friday December 2, 2022.
I recommend that you listen to the album all the way through because it’s kind of a concept album I guess you would call it. The singles that I am releasing before I release the whole album are standalone songs that you don’t need to necessarily listen to in order but I think you will enjoy the album more if you listen to the songs in the proper order. Well Folks I hope you enjoy my album remember don’t take yourself too seriously and try to get along with people whether they agree with your opinions or not because we’re all humans we’re all in it together here eh. Don’t buy into the fear live every day like it’s your last and enjoy the short time that we have here on earth don’t waste your time thinking negative thoughts.
The first takeaway from this is album is that it is not the glorious churlishness of Dayglo. There’s a lot more of a punk ‘n roll/ramonescore sound to Isolated Earthlings’ debut. Marc plays drums, bass and vocals; and brings in several guest musicians on guitar.
