What better time than the middle of the night to premiere the newest single and video from Audation? Why, you may ask? Because the song is “City,” and it’s all about when the city sleeps, that’s why!
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Jamin once again provides the intricate backstory to the song:
When I was 24 I moved from Iowa to Nebraska. I was dealing with depression and was feeling overwhelmed by life so I didn’t make many friends right away. Every night I would stay up late in my basement bedroom and write songs and riffs and beats til the morning hours.
“City” came as a culmination of working on the grindstone as a way to avoid dealing with my emotional and social problems. “Wide awake while the city sleeps we make dreams reality” became the anthem of my desire to create songs that inspired and reached people who may have been dealing with loneliness, depression, and insomnia like me.
It’s not meant to be a sad song to elicit pity, but a tune of encouragement. Keep on working and believing and we will get through this together.
I think we’ve all been there, and this world could always use more positive anthems to bring us out of our individual funks.
