We interrupt your regularly-scheduled Bandcamp Friday coverage to bring you a premiere: the new single and video from Years Down. The Denver act describes themselves as “Trash Pop Punk with breakdowns”… (removes glasses)… damn, that’s one of the better self-descriptions I’ve heard in a while.
Is it trash, though? We’d beg to differ! “Can’t Shake This Feeling” is both growly, grungy, and bass heavy. A bit like if pop punk had a trashy sibl… oh, you get what I mean!
Vocalist Griffin Mather (he of the poppy-yet-growly tones) says about the track:
Rob (Cornell), our producer in chief, had been jamming the opening riff to this song around me for a while, its just so catchy i was instantly into it and was beyond stoked to start work on it but couldn’t really find my foot hold melodically/lyrically for a little while. After a particularly rough night it all sort of flew out of me the next day from lyrics to melody, all very much ripped from real life. At the end of the day, I just hope it connects with people and they can get the same catharsis I did when writing it.
This is the band’s first new single of 2024 and, along with last July’s “Tennis Court,” follows up their May 2023 December State of Mind LP. See all of the Years Down links anyone would ever need below.
