Throughout last year Pure Noise Records, collaborating with Pabst Blue Ribbon, released a steady stream of cover songs under the moniker Dead Formats Vol. 1, culminating in the full album being released at the end of the year (TGEFM’s review). Well, it seems like that whole “volume 1” part wasn’t just wishful thinking, with Vol. 2 announced with three new covers.
First off we have LA’s Lavalove and their cover of the Nirvana song “Lithium,” off of that band’s breakout 1991 LP Nevermind.
Next up is longtime ska-punks Less Than Jake, featuring the Sooza Brass Band channeling the catchy The Kinks tune “Come Dancing” from the 1983 State of Confusion LP.
Finally for this batch we get Chicago’s Knuckle Puck who are “Losing A Whole Year” with their Third Eye Blind cover. That song originally appears on Third Eye Blind’s self-titled 1997 LP.
Preorders, streams, and more can be found over at the Dead Formats link page.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
