Specialist Subject Records – 06 May 2022

A Milkyway Powerpop entity, Cosmit

It’s like an unspoken rule that almost all punk or indie labels should have their co-workers forming a band. Cosmit is a band that consists of members of the Specialist Subject Records’ team. So yes Cosmit basically equals the “Specialist Subject Co-Worker Union”.

The EP It’s Cosmit is the second the band has released, following their s/t from Apr 2020 (right at the start of the pandemic). It’s been so long, you could say the new EP represents their re-introduction to the scene. Five lovely tunes that will drive you into a joyful powerpop listening session. On the opening track “Cost of Breathing”, I like the soundwave guitar intro that is followed up by the clean guitar tunes and the upbeat drumming which kind of reminds me of the more “space” theme of toyGuitar. The track “Go Go Go” has a good melody on the verses and a powerpop lead guitar vibe. If you’re a fan of bands like The Shiver or Exploding Heart, I would bet that this track would melt your heart.

The last track, “Pins and Needles” would be another contender for your other favorite song on this EP. I like the mumbling “Pa Pa Pa Pa” part, which makes this one of the more authentic and original tracks amongst the others.

It’s a lovely batch of tunes that you should check out. I have rarely listened to any EPs this year, so I guess this one goes into my favorite EP list so far. I’m guessing it may be for you, as well.
