Growing up in the NW Chicago suburbs, I can remember a time when The Bollweevils weren’t even a thing, and then then they were there, just kind of out of the blue (not entirely true). Throughout their history the band came and went and showed up again (which is always an event of significance in the Chicago scene when they pop back up), and now they’ve been back for a bit. Which is why what I’m about to write brings an extra flash of joy for me: TGEFM is excited to reveal the details of the band’s first full-length release in 14 years!
Titled Essential, the album is due out 05 May 2023 via Red Scare Industries. When asked about the album, Dr. Daryl Wilson, vocalist and leaper extraordinaire, had this to say:
We are proud to announce the upcoming release of our new LP, Essential, on Red Scare. This has been a labor of love and we are extremely happy with the body of work. Years in the making and it’s all coming together and coming to you very soon. May 5th! Pre-order and be one of the first to experience The Bollweevils resurgence. Hope to see many of you at our upcoming show with Rise Against, and some more live stuff later this spring.
That’s right, The Bollweevils will be opening in support of fellow Windy City juggernauts Rise Against at the end of the month on 30 Mar 2023 at the famous Metro in Chicago! With a new album in the offing, there’s also more gigs in the works (info on those are TBA).
So check out the album cover art and tracklist below, and head to this nifty link page for The Bollweevils pre-order, streaming, tickets, and everything else you could ever ask for.

the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
