Recent Equal Vision Records signee, House Parties will be releasing their brand-new EP Side Effects on 19 January, 2024. You can pre-save Side Effects here. In addition to shows with Can’t Swim and the upcoming album release, House Parties’ vocalist Chaney Elaine also took the time to speak with TGEFM about who the band is, what artists helped inspire them and what’s next.
Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview and congrats on the upcoming release of Side Effects. What can you tell me about House Parties, the new EP, working with Equal Vision Records and what you want to represent to your listeners?
House Parties is a band for people who loved to dye their hair and grew up on 2013 pop punk. We have our new EP Side Effects coming out in January or next year. The EP is about all those background emotions you get from life. Each song sounds vastly different from each other but cohesive at the same time. Working with Equal Vision Records has been a wonderful experience, to finally have a whole team of people believing in our project and helping to bring it to life is a dream come true. We as a band want to represent being your true authentic self. Not having to change yourself for anyone or anything. Be you.
What album or band or significant singles made you go “Yeah, this is what I want to do” Not just an influence but who or what was the catalyst?
For me (Chaney), I remember in middle school, my friend had shown me alternative music for the first time which included Paramore. I listened to a couple songs from Riot! and fell in love with the idea of being a strong front woman singing in a band. Getting to shout my truths and be the voice for the people who don’t get one.
One of our obligatory questions in these interviews also tends to be the one I have found most important on a personal level. Who are some bands on your radar that TGEFM readers may not know about, but you think they should?
I have so many bands- Diva Bleach, Honey Revenge, Belmont, Not My Weekend, Glimmers, Cawston and All There Is.
What’s next for the members of House Parties?
What’s next for us is to tour more and start writing our album.
Was there anything I missed that you’d like to share or dive deeper into with our readers?
Tell your friends about us and pre-order Side Effects coming out on January 19th, 2024.
Roll of the Dice is a short interview format with a variable amount of questions. A pair of dice is rolled and the total, between 2 and 12, is the amount of questions we can ask. All questions are given to the interviewee(s) at once, and no follow-ups are allowed. The interview may be lightly edited for content and clarity.
Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
