Pulley have been around for a long time. On the eve of their event studio LP in almost 30 years, TGEFM got in touch with formative member and frontman Scott Radinsky for a round of Roll of the Dice. We rolled a FIVE.
1) We rolled a five here, which isn’t bad, but isn’t that great. We’ll pack in as much as we can. How is Pulley doing? You have a new release coming out, The Golden Life, but for the life of me, I can’t find out much about it. Can you clue us in?
We are all doing great, we’ve managed to navigate our way through the last couple of years making the most of it, writing, recording and recently started doing shows again a little more consistently..
The Golden Life is a new record we started working on at some point in 2020 when guys were out of work and we could put in the time on a regular basis,, it all came together really smooth and quick, before we knew it we had songs, we were recording and now next month it will be coming out on May 13th. We’re all super excited about a new label and this record.
2) Pulley’s been around for a while but, for obvious reasons, haven’t been full-time for much of your career. With your retirement from the MLB and spending more time coaching at a local level, do you expect Pulley’s activities to ramp up?
Yes it’s true that we have had challenges trying to do things certain time of the year. From the beginning though the whole concept of the band was to be an outlet to play, record and have fun doing it while not relying on the band as a way to provide. It was part of a conscious effort and we are still following that today. We have always managed to tour certain parts of the world and developed a following that keeps bringing us back to those areas still. I do not think there will be any more live shows than normal just the opportunity to have all yr to pick and choose what and where we end up.
3) In 2021 you released the Different Strings acoustic EP. Was this album a product of itchy fingers during the pandemic, which kept a lot of bands apart, or was it something you planned for or wanted to do for a while?
The acoustic idea actually goes back to the early 2000’s when we were kicking around the idea of a couple of acoustic songs on our last Epitaph release Matters. We only had one acoustic song on there and it was a short one at the end of the record. It did resurface at the start of the pandemic and we were trying to record about 3 to 4 songs from each record acoustically, so far we are one record in and we continue the idea. After the first record we started working on songs for the new release so maybe now we will get back at it.
4) Pulley’s 30th anniversary is coming up in two years. How do you all feel about that, and do you have any plans in the works to celebrate?
Time sure flies by. 30 yrs is a long time and I think we are all proud of the fact we are still doing it for the right reasons and the passion we all have for playing music is still there in full force.
As far as celebrating there is not really anything that has been discussed as of yet but I would imagine as the time gets closer we will think of something cool to do.
I guess at our age we celebrate everyday anyway!
5) As scene veterans, you get to play around the world with a lot of different bands. Name some bands you’ve met in your travels that may not have notoriety, but that you think TGEFM’s readers should check out.
We have been fortunate to have been able to play with many different bands over the years, most of the time it’s hard to remember what they sound like but we remember the people more than anything. I couldn’t name just one band that sticks out it wouldn’t be fair to the other thousands who are all deserving, so with that I’ll just throw out a thank you to all the great bands we’ve been able to spend time with and had good conversations. You all know who you are.
Pulley’s new album The Golden Life is due out 13 May 2022 via SBÄM Records. You can visit this linktree page for preorder and preserve options.
The band will also be in tour, hitting ups the EU in May and then Canada over the summer. You can check out the details of those gigs via the tour posters below.
Roll of the Dice is a short interview format with a variable amount of questions. A Pair of dice is rolled and the total, between 2 and 12, is the amount of questions we can ask. All questions are given to the interviewee(s) at once, and no follow-ups are allowed.
