Roll of the Dice: 7 questions with King Of Heck

King Of Heck and That’s Good Enough For Me are ready to celebrate the new release, Everyday Friend, out now on Honey Revenge. We were able to sit down for a brief Roll of the Dice and chat about the band, the record and what’s next for King Of Heck.

Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview!  Congrats on the new record Everyday Friend. What should our readers know about the members of King of Heck, your history and your sound?

King of Heck started in 2018, we had all played music before in a few other bands and toured together so it was natural to make some more stuff together. Our past music was more punk/screamo so the king of heck project is more rock n roll and indie, especially this new record.

What album or band or significant singles made you go “Yeah, this is what I want to do”  Not just an influence but who or what was the catalyst?

For this album, I was listening to a lot of Tom Petty and Kanye West I think I’m always looking for something that lies in the middle of that, beautiful folk rock and industrial electronic rap, Joni Mitchell and Death Grips. That was the genesis of everyday friend, but I think we strayed a bit and it ends up more like a record from The Strokes
I fell in love with music whenever the first time I heard “Buddy Holly” by Weezer or that Fatboy Slim song “Rockafella Skank,” they should make songs like that again.

We all have a few, what is your biggest regret? A gig you turned down, advice you didn’t take, what one thing do you wish you handled differently as a musician?

No regrets really, one time I ended a relationship to go on a European tour, that might be regrettable.
Everything we do leads us down the path we’re heading down, it’s unstoppable and we are empowered by its unending intention and will.

What have been some of the most memorable moments or experiences with the band so far? What’s been the most unexpected? The weirdest?

We spent a month in Brooklyn making this record and hanging out, that was really nice and I’d love to do that again. Just pretending to live in NY filled my cup enough where I probably won’t ever move there.
The worst is every time the van spins out on black ice or the trailer slides or we drive into a ditch or a median or crash. If there was a way to tour without getting in a vehicle, that would be nice. Just gig teleportation.

One of our obligatory questions in these interviews also tends to be the one I have found most important on a personal level. Who are some bands on your radar that TGEFM readers may not know about, but you think
they should?

My favorite artist right now is LUCY(Cooper B. Handy) everyone should listen to Lucy. One of the best doing it right now.

What’s next for King of Heck?

I think we will just keep pumping out the tunes, hopefully touring a little bit in the summer but time will tell.

Was there anything I missed that you’d like to share or dive deeper into with our readers?

I hope this record can be for everyone who listens, what it has been for me, a shoulder to lean on in the chaos of life and love in all of its irony and wonderful blessings.

Roll of the Dice is a short interview format with a variable amount of questions. A pair of dice is rolled and the total, between 2 and 12, is the amount of questions we can ask. All questions are given to the interviewee(s) at once, and no follow-ups are allowed. The interview may be lightly edited for content and clarity.
