New Haven, CT emo/pop-punks Mighty Tortuga are kicking off the year with a new single, and TGEFM was lucky enough to snag the premiere for YOU. “Through Your Teeth” is the first single from the band’s upcoming self-titled LP, coming soon from Heading East Records.
We asked the band to talk about “Through Your Teeth” and recording the new tunes:
We spent the summer at Diver Down Studios recording the instrumentals, and spent the last few months taking things back to basics, figuring out what Mighty Tortuga is as a band as well as our sound moving forward. We built a home studio and started working on pre-production before meeting back up with Fred (Mascherino) and Steve (Angello) to complete the final takes. We think we captured something special, and we hope you do too.
Mighty Tortuga are set to perform at the Heading East Fest in Philadelphia on 20 January along with The Color Fred, Steady Hands, Amora, Oceans In The Sky and Lilito. You can find the details of that festival, and the new single, below.

Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
