Ska Punk International and video game music tribute label GameGrooves are collaborating on a new ska-centric tribute to Final Fantasy VII. Of course, given the nature of the original music, the covers are pretty much instrumentals. But they’ll definitely trigger the nostalgia switch in your brain.
Acts such as Flying Raccoon Suit, FLIPLUKA, and SaiyaSounds all contribute. In addition to the announcement, we also get the first set of singles from Half Past Two, Simple Minded Symphony, and The Limit Breakers. The tribute comp is due out 21 Apr 2023, and you can preorder it digitally at the GameGrooves Bandcamp page.
The Final Fantasy VII role-playing game, released in 1997 still holds a place in the hearts of many who came of age in the late-90s. It is the first volume in the long-running series of games to be released on the PlayStation, marking the first time that a FF game was initially released on a non-Nintendo system.
