Space Podity is TGEFM’s regular roundup of recent podcasts that bear some relation to the music scene we know and love. Included will be links to the podcasts, and a brief description of who/what they each cover in the episode.
If you think YOUR podcast should be included in this list, sound off in the comments below, or shoot us a message HERE.
101 Part TImes Jobs — Ep. 44 — Jeff Rosenstock speaks with Giles on this most recent episode to discuss some of the worst jobs he’s had prior to being a member of The Arrogant Sons of Bitches, the duo also cover Rosenstock signing to Side One Dummy Records and Polyvinyl Records and now being a music-maker on the Cartoon Network original Craig of the Creek.
Axe To Grind Podcast — Ep 134.5 — In this tribute to recently deceased Riley Gale from Power Trip, host Bob Shedd gives his personal and heartfelt eulogy for Riley before replaying the May 2018 episode that Riley was a guest host on. While the episode is fun and an indicator of Riley’s heart and spirit, in light of recent events it is a sincere testament to the man and the impact he had on those around him.
Chris DeMakes A Podcast — Ep. 13 — New Found Glory’s drummer Cyrus Bolooki joins Chris to discuss the band’s breakout single “Hit or Miss” and the surprising fact that Cyrus, the drummer, created the guitar riff for the song, his giving up the family business when he dropped out of med school to make New Found Glory his full time gig and being the only band to ever open for Less than Jake and then repay them by taking LTJ on a stadium tour.
Horn and Hoofs Records Podcast — Ep. 1 — On the debut episode of this pod, join Scott of Horn and Hoof Records as he meets with the Turfboy lyricist, songwriter and vocalist Colin Kelly to discuss the latter’s Irish grunge debut album At Tension.
Life In The Stocks — Ep. 176 — Matt Stocks welcomes Ralph D’Amato on today’s episode. D’Amato is not a name that everyone will know, but there aren’t many of us in the scene who haven’t enjoyed his work as the producer of the first 8 games in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. The pair jump around discussing the games and the impact of their soundtracks, the history of the games and its characters and D’Amato’s new role producing “Pretending I’m a Superman” the new full length documentary available for streaming now.
The Power Chord Hour Podcast — Ep. 32 — On This episode, Anthony Merchant meets with Bill McShane of Ultimate Fakebook. McShane gets into the things in the scene that have changed since his power-pop band last released an album, about Ultimate Fakebook’s return with this year’s The Preserving Hour, and the scene in the Midwest, specifically Kansas.
Reminiscent: A Pop Punk and Emo Music Podcast — Ep. 186 — Reminiscent is a podcast where two buddies get together to discuss singles from their formative years. This episode Tom and Pat deep dive into Good Charlotte‘s “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” single and video. Be reminded of the video’s cameos by members of Tenacious D, ‘N Sync and the Madden brothers’ dog. Hear about the duo learning what a poseur was, their unhealthy fear of Hot Topic and how in seventh grade you can convince yourself that a black and red beanie is the epitome of goth fashion.
Sappenin’ Podcast with Sean Smith — Ep. 92 — Aaron Gillespie, the iconic drummer of Underoath and his solo project The Almost joins the lads to discuss his career, including the dissolution of Underoath and his reunion there, his new work as a singer-songwriter, his new role as father of two, life in lockdown and his not-so-brief stint drumming for Paramore.
This Was The Scene with Mike Doyle — Ep. 107 — Mike skypes with Tom Blyth of Goober Patrol and dives into the story of Goober Patrol being signed by Fat Wreck Chords, the absurd premise behind their contributions to the Peepshow video comp, visiting S&M clubs with Fat Mike and being in a plane over a monsoon.
World’s Best Dad — Ep. 11 — Christian Jacobs and Jimmy Arrighi bring in the legendary Steve Caballero this week. Once the duo stop praising Cab for his influence in their lives, namely the time he (didn’t actually) beat Christian Hosoi in a high air contest featured in Thrasher Magazine they begin to discuss fatherhood, their skating children, Steve’s band The Faction, The Bones Brigade and toy collecting. The most poignant points brought up in the punk/parenting pod were Caballero being a child of divorce and how that influences his ability to co-parent today.
Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
