In a straight-to-the-point but low on details post on Facebook, longtime The Cure bassist Simon Gallup has announced his departure from the band. The post, which is public, simply states “With a slightly heavy heart I am no longer a member of the Cure ! Good luck to them all …” Later in the conversation thread he added “I’m OK… just got fed up of betrayal.”
Gallup has played with The Cure on 11 of their 13 studio albums, but has departed the band before, from 1982 to 1984, and then briefly in 1992 due to health reasons. He was the longest-running member of the band aside from Robert Smith. The Cure have not commented publicly on his departure at this time.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
