Long-running ska-(insert genre here) crossovers The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have announced via their social media that the band will be calling it quits. No direct reason was given, and the band, true to form, thanked their fans for their support.
The Bosstones formed in 1983 and took a brief hiatus from 2004-2007. The band skyrocketed to worldwide renown with songs like “Don’t Know How to Party” and “The Impression that I Get.” Their most recent album, When God Was Great, was released 07 May 2021 via Hellcat Records, achieving highly-positive reviews even in a year full of great ska (including TGEFM’s glowing review).
The Bosttones have two scheduled concert dates in the near future. No word on what the status of those events are at the moment.
I’ll leave you with the video for “Don’t Know How to Party,” which includes yours truly (the one with a plaid pantleg as a hat) at around timestamp 3m11s being brought onstage after being kicked in the jaw by a skinhead. (yes, i got to hang out with the band afterward… it was worth the permanently dented jaw)
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
Sad, but two notes of consolation:
1. They went out on their best album. When God Was Great is a masterpiece.
2. This is their second breakup so who knows.
