Throughout last year Pure Noise Records, collaborating with Pabst Blue Ribbon, released a steady stream of cover songs under the moniker Dead Formats Vol. 1, culminating in the full album being released at the end of the year (TGEFM’s review). Recently they announced the second volume, and have now released their third batch of covers (now totaling nine release this far.
First up is New Jersey’s The Early November, covering the classic New Order song “Bizarre Love Triangle,” originally from that band’s 1986 LP Brotherhood.
Next up is Boston indie-rock act Mint Green, who travel back just before Y2K with their rendition of Incubus‘ “Drive,” from the 1999 album Make Yourself.
Last we have Youth Fountain performing Less Than Jake (who are also on this covers comp) and the 2000 track “Look What Happened” from the Borders & Boundaries LP.
Preorders, streams, and more can be found over at the Dead Formats link page.
the white drew carey (aka – Jeff Sorley) is the founder and head editor of TGEFM. He’s lived (outside of) Chicago, Madison WI, (ugh) Penn State, Lyon FR, Oxford UK, central New Jersey, and now within earshot of SFO in the Bay Area. When not scouring the web for more great bands and labels to post about, he also spends time drawing (mostly) silly sci-fi and anime stuff under the name Asplenia Studios.
