AFI‘s record Sing The Sorrow is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Yup, 11 March marks 20 years since AFI finally its transformation from punks who say “Whoa” to punks full of woe. Holy shit, I’m way past my best-by shelf date.
That brings us to metal-centric after hours entertainer Gwarsenio Hall, and Two Minutes to Late Night‘s newest entry in their cover series, AFI’s hit song “The Leaving Song.” Well actually its slightly more than “The Leaving Song” or its sequel, which may be why Hall and friends are calling it “The Leaving Song Pt 3.”
Joining Gwarsenio for the cover are Sebastian Paba (Regulate), Colin Young (God’s Hate) and Bo Lueders (Mr Brother).
Two Minutes To Late Night is a heavy-metal themed talk show featuring Gwarsenio Hall, the corpse-painted host and his house band, Mutoid Man. Previous covers have included a brilliant medley of 90s club hits and unique takes on Rush, Rage Against the Machine and Bonnie Raitt among others, all of which can be found here.
Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
