You’re gonna friggin’ love this!
TGEFM is super-stoked to premiere for you the interactive music video for UK power-punks Mondo Wave‘s newest single “Ripping Me Away”! The single dropped this past Friday, 08 Mar 2024, and is their first music since late-2022’s “Out N About.” The band, which thrives on a “mutual love for Skate and Snowboarding” aims to “provide a unique sound, infectious party vibe and a ferocious live show.”
“Ripping Me Away” is simply no exception. A powerful and pounding banger that is both exciting while also evoking a sense of unease at the same time. It is the second single from their forthcoming album GONZO and, while we don’t have much more information than that yet, this’ll get you excited for more.
Fil Blank, vocals and guitar, discusses the single itself:
The tune came in pretty hot when Pete sent me the demo, it sounded fat on shitty phone speakers so I figured it was a banga! I wrote it almost impulsively straight away.
It’s about the feeling of loss of self in the gauntlet of modern day dating.
All well and good, right? Well Mondo Wave goes a step further with the video itself:
We knew we wanted a head in a tank getting tortured or gunged, that much we knew. It was a question of where we could make such a massive mess?! We used 20 gallons of gunge, that’s mostly green jelly, and some classic yellow custard, as far as torture goes, it tasted pretty good!
Elizetaco produced the whole thing and had the idea to make it a VR video. Then we knew we wanted it to be a trippy experience. Charlie was nice enough to let us use the party room on the farm where our studio is. This room had loads of rad art and lighting that enabled us to get the kaleidoscope vibes goin.
We drove an hour n a half with 16 gallons of gunge sloshing around in buckets with cling film for lids in a Honda Jazz with 5 people jammed in the car, there was considerable spillage.
For those unfamiliar, the Jazz is the name for the Honda Fit here in North America. So, yeah… not a large vehicle to be hauling so much.
But… yeah… this is a 100% immersive video best experienced with VR headsets. If you aren’t set up for that, you can either move your phone or tablet, or your mouse, to see everything going on in the room. It fits the song so damn well. Kudos to all involved.
