“He was a member of the Christian right / and an asshole day and night“
I had an artist table at a nerd convention all weekend long, and I couldn’t get this verse out of my head. Nova Scotia’s Wintersleep drop their first new music in over five years with “Fool For A Life.” The song, written during the pandemic lockdown in response to the whack jobs who perpetrated the January 6th, 2021 attack on the US Capitol Building still stands the test of time. One would have hoped that Americans could move away from the MAGA movement, but I guess not.
Considering the subject matter and lyrical content, the song is a surprisingly fey indie track. Gentle tunes and clever lyrics coupled with a stylish delivery and cadence.
“He was a member of the privileged white / yet somehow still a victim in his own eyes“
Indeed.
Enjoy the track below (I know I have been), and visit Wintersleep at their Bandcamp or Spotify for more of their music. The band also has a mini-tour planned for their neck of the woods next March. Details and links for that are below the stream.
