Singer-songwriter Janet LaBelle has debuted the music video for “You’re Gone.” This is LaBelle’s first new music released since 2021’s three-track EP on Wild Violet Records (available here).
LaBelle has long been considered one of the best voices of the Jersey and New York independent scene since fronting pop-punk dynamos Avery and continues to bring vocals and songwriting talents as a solo artist.
Of the song itself, LaBelle says “The writing process for me was about embracing difficult emotions instead of trying to run away from them. There’s a lot of repetition in the song, which felt grounding to me in finding my own peace with a difficult situation.” She further explains “One of the repeating lyrics is ‘You’re never coming back and that’s fine.’ As much as possible, I’m leaning into it in this song. Music and songwriting can be really cathartic for me. I definitely do it for personal reasons.”
You can catch Janet (and a ton of other amazing NJPP artists) at the LP release show of Jersey Interchange‘s compilation at Twin Elephant Brewing Company in Chatham, NJ on 13 May. Tickets to the show are available here, and the poster can be found below.

Bad Dad (occasionally called Ed) has been on the periphery of the punk and punk-adjacent scene for over twenty years. While many contributors to this site have musical experience and talent, Ed’s musical claim to fame comes from his time in arguably the most punk rock Blockbuster Video district in NJ where he worked alongside members of Blanks 77, Best Hit TV and Brian Fallon. He is more than just an awful father to his 2 daughters, he is also a dreadful husband, a subpar writer, a terrible dresser and has a severe deficiency in all things talent… but hey, at least he’s self-aware, amirite?
