First Impressions Review: Brian Science – “My Best Friend”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Laptop Punk Records, 04 Feb 2023

singer has a new song out.  “My Best Friend” arrived 04 Feb 2023 via and can be purchased digitally at the link below.  We last heard from Science on the song “Someday Soon” (also Laptop Punk) and from Grimetime with last summer's Hold On (Mutant Pop).

“My Best Friend” is dedicated to Brian's rat Kepi Girlie and falls into the Ramonescore sound that his main gig is known for.  It's a real good number and the melody on the verses reminds me a bunch of something from Groovie Ghoulies.  Brian's vocals sound really right for the music as he sings heavy and regretfully bummed words about the loss of Kepi Girlie.  Special kudos for the tasty synthesizer that drops in, and for the production that sounds clear and buzzing and right for the music.  This song is a good (and heartbreaking) one and will hit right for fans of Ramones-loving pop punk.  *Note: proceeds from the song go to RattyRatz Bay Area Rat Rescue.
