First Impressions Review: Horror Section – “The Other Side”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

often do some of my favorite pop punk stuff.  Every single song harkens back to a horror film of one sort or another, and the hit-to-miss ratio is excellent.  The songs tend to be catchy with great brainwashing lead guitars and tones and moods that are spot-on much more often than not.  So when the band recently announced , they got my attention.

” is the new single and video from the album (which just arrived physically, but is not yet up for streaming), and it leads off pretty much as I described above – ominous lead guitar over a Ramonescore base moving along at a mid-tempo pop punk pace.  The vocals are clean and unaffected – no trace of whine or snotty sneer – just melodic with nice backing vocals setting things off every once in a while.  And the lead guitar that pops up during the fade out at the end is simple but effective.  Fans of the Eccentric Pop and catalogs will be happy with this one.  Check out the video below.
