First Impressions Review: Lone Wolf – “Begging Me”

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.

Euro pop punks have a new album on the way via .  Called Haze Wave, the album lands 12 May 2023 and can be pre-ordered and pre-saved at the link below.  Ahead of the release, the band has dropped a new video.

“Begging Me” has some effects-laden guitars that layer up over top the buzzing guitars – something that I am not always fond of – but they work well here, playing a memorable figure that keeps bouncing round my skull.  The vocals also bring the melodic hooks, sung cleanly in a shout-sing that seems like they're aiming for the people standing in the back at any given dive bar.  The polished sheen lends almost a slight post-punk feel to the song and might turn some people off – it's maybe not for pop punk purists – but it also adds a little depth to the song and helps it stand out a bit.  I've listened to a bit of Lone Wolf before, but honestly never had any of their songs stand out quite as well as “Begging Me”.  They might be onto something with this that can get me coming back for more.
