First Impressions Review: The Felonz – “Sobby”

Laptop Punk Records, 28 Mar 2023

Another new song from , a band that takes a pretty raw and wild run at pop punk, with consistently driving rhythms, simple straightforward guitars and bass, and raw, snotty, and oddly charismatic vocals that sneer with the best of ‘em.  This new one is called “Sobby” and it's available via (get it at the link below).

“Sobby”, a tribute to Japanese pop punk greats The Wimpy's, is another fantastic number.  This one feels a little less ramshackle and off-the-rails than the previously released “N.G.B.”, but the insistent guitar riff just drives hard into my brain.  This one has no let-up and the love is palpable with lines like “hey Sobby, I wrote this stupid song for you” and “The Wimpy's are super cool it's plain to see”.  It's simple and completely endearing.  Like their other stuff, this one gets my recommendation.

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
