Monster Zero / Mom’s Basement, 12 Jun 2023
As we reported previously, Hamburg, Germany’s The Haermorrhoids have announced a new album on the way. At The Earth’s Core is slated to arrive 08 Jul 2023 via Monster Zero and Mom’s Basement Records. At the time of the announcement, the band had yet to release any teaser or lead single. Now, that has changed.
“Hold Me Tight” is a gorgeous pop rock nugget. It comes out fully formed from the jump, employing a slow and sauntering stomp to anchor down buzzing electric guitars playing a fairly basic but engaging chord progression. The drum fills scattered throughout are their own kind of hook and the lead guitar that jumps in on the bridge has a nice nostalgia-seeming vibe. But at the core, this is a vocal-driven song. The lead vocal melody is sweet and endearing and the harmonies from the backing vocals are well done and memorable. And it’s all done in 1:28 – there’s quite a lot going on in that short run time. It ends up a sort of 50’s-era Buddy Holly feeling song with more electricity coursing through the guitars. Another comparison: it carries along similar to a song from the newest Trevor Blendour album (Falling In Love) with more distorted guitars.
- Song Comes From: At The Earth’s Core

First Impressions are whiz-bang reviews of singles, 7″s, EPs, and LPs which are given a review after a single listen. This is a great way for TGEFM to showcase some of the releases which may not get a full review on their own.
